The public road that runs along the east side of Disneyland Resort is called Harbor Boulevard. Along this road are many third party hotels both independent and from national chains like Best Western, Marriott and Howard Johnson. Some of these hotels are closer to the main entrances to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park than some of the official Disneyland Resort Hotels. These hotels on Harbor Boulevard (and other area hotels) can provide a budget-friendly alternative to the Disneyland Resort Hotels while still being within walking distance of the parks.

Harbor Hotels, Disneyland 101 Glossary FAQS
”Harbor Hotels” is not any kind of official term. We have included it here in the Disneyland 101 Glossary, because it is an effective way of describing a cluster of hotels and motels within an easy distance of Disneyland Resort. We are making some generalizations here, it we hope they will help you tackle the (possibly) overwhelming task of selecting accommodations near Disneyland Resort.
Why would a pick a hotel on Harbor Boulevard when visiting Disneyland Resort?
Harbor Boulevard is the Anaheim street that runs north and south along the eastern edge of Disneyland Resort. This hotels are right across the street from Disney. There are a few reasons you might want to stay in these hotels (1) In many cases, the Harbor hotels actually offer a shorter walk to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park than the Disneyland Resort Hotels. (2) They are also usually more budget friendly than the Disneyland Resort Hotels. (3) Some of these hotels belong to major hotel chains, so you might be able to earn or use loyalty points for your stay.
But I found a closer hotel right next to Disneyland on Katella (Ball Rd, Walnut St, etc)…
Honestly, no you probably did not. If you are looking at map or overhead view of the Disneyland Resort area, it probably looks like there are lots of hotels right next to Disneyland. Some of these hotels even have views of the north or south side of the resort.
The complication is that there are only certain points where guests can access Disneyland Resort. In other words, you cannot just walk into Disneyland Resort at any point along the perimeter: you will encounter fences, walls and security. There are only a few gates into Disneyland Resort, and the one most off-property hotel guests use is at approximately 1509 South Harbor Boulevard. This pedestrian gate is right at a busy crosswalk equipped with traffic lights.
Most of the Harbor Boulevard hotels out you very close to this pedestrian entrance. If you are staying at a hotel on Katella or Ball Road, you are probably still going to end-up walking down Harbor Boulevard to get to this access point. In other words, you will need to walk right pasts the hotels on Harbor. You also have the option of entering on the west side of the resort, but you are still in for a long journey.
To determine the true travel distance to Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park from a hotel, we suggest using your favorite mapping app to pull up directions to the Disneyland Esplanade. In that case… why would I ever pick a hotel that is not on Harbor Boulevard?
Hotels on Harbor Boulevard between Katella and Ball Road are great for being within walking distance of Disneyland Resort. However, many of them are older motel-style accommodations. If you are looking for hotels with more amenities, you may want to consider options outside this immediate area.
In many cases, you can get bonuses like larger rooms, nicer recreation areas and in-room kitchens for the same price that you would pay for a basic motel room across the street from Disneyland. The trade-off is that you will have a longer walk to Disneyland. You may even opt to drive or take a shuttle or ride-share to the parks. You may also decide to choose another hotel, because you would prefer to stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotels.
Does Disney own the Harbor Hotels?
No. Disney does not currently own any hotels on Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim. The three Disneyland Resort Hotels are located on the west side of Disneyland Resort. They are Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Pixar Place Hotel.

I am worried about losing the perks I would get from a Disney hotel: should I still book a hotel on Harbor Boulevard?
Historically, Disneyland Resort Hotels have offered a changing slate of perks to guests staying at a Disney hotel. The most attractive of these (in our opinion) was the opportunity to spend extra hours in the parks. In early 2026, Disney removed this perk, which most recently had the title of “Early Entry.” Those extra hours may yet return, as the list or Disneyland Resort Hotels perks is constantly changing.
For example, we have seen benefits like access to special tours and activities, the ability to make charges to your room, the aforementioned Early Entry (aka Magic Mornings, Extra Magic, etc.) and special park entrances. We suggest checking the list of included benefits as well as the hotel activities and events schedule for your stay. Then, decide whether the perks fit the premium you will pay for a Disney hotel.
