“Sh-Boom” Time is the moment each night when the neon lights in Cars Landin Disney California Adventure Park ignite for the evening. This brief special occurrence mirrors the scene in the Cars film where the main character, Lightning McQueen, is charmed when he witnesses the town of Radiator Springs practice the same tradition of turning-on their neon lights with the accompaniment of the song “Sh-Boom” by The Chords. This “Sh-Boom Time” is not listed in Disney California Adventure Park’s entertainment guide, but it regularly occurs just after sunset each evening.

Sh-Boom Time at Disneyland Resort, FAQs

The definition above gives you a quick overview of Sh-Boom Time at Disneyland Resort, but keep reading for information about just when and how to experience it for yourself.

Where Does Sh-Boom Time Happen at Disneyland Resort?

“Sh-Boom” time happens in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park. Cars Land is in the southeast corner of Disney California Adventure Park.

For the best experience, you will probably want to be at a spot along the main “street” where you can see the maximum number of businesses around Cars Land, particularly Flo’s V8 Cafe, Cozy Cone Motel, Ramone’s and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

We think Cars Land is the best land at Disney California Adventure Park for completely transporting visitors. What does that mean? Well, it is Cars Land, so you could literally say it does transportation well, but we mean something a little different.

When you step into Cars Land, it feels like you have actually been transported to a whole new place. You are not in Disneyland Resort or Anaheim, California. You are not even in a place that exists in our world. Instead, as Mater says in the first Cars film, “You’re in Radiator Springs, the cutest little town in Carburetor County!” I wrote about falling for Cars Land and Radiator Springs here.

In Cars Land, you can take a spin around the junkyard with Mater, dance with Luigi and his cousins and race with Lightning McQueen. You can also park yourself somewhere comfortable and enjoy the amazing ambiance. The rock work on the horizon looks like it drove straight out of the film, and it sure seems like Flo could zoom into her cafe at any moment. It is all amazing, but some of the very best elements of Cars Land are the neon lights.

Sh-Boom Time celebrates those neon lights and a sweet little moment from the original Disney Pixar Cars movie. It transports you into the movie and Radiator Springs.

What is Sh-Boom Time in Disney California Adventure Park?

Sh-Boom Time is the special time of the evening when Disney California Adventure Park ignites the neon lights in Cars Land. The lighting happens to the soundtrack of “Sh-Boom” performed by the Chords.

We encourage you to visit Cars Land during the day to take in all of the amazing details, but we also urge you to visit after dark to see the neon. Even better, visit as night falls to experience Sh-Boom Time.

As the sun sets, Cars Land switches on its neon lights, and they look spectacular. But this is Disneyland Resort, so they are going to take it a step beyond spectacular. As the lights ignite, the sweet sounds of “Sh-Boom” performed by The Chords drifts over the land.

This is Sh-Boom Time. It mirrors the moment in the film where Lighting McQueen experiences the neon of Radiator Springs lighting up as its residents cruise to “Sh-Boom.”

Do I need a special ticket for Sh-Boom Time at Disneyland Resort?

No. Sh-Boom Time is included with general admission to Disney California Adventure Park. To experience it, you just need to be in the right place at the right time.

When Does Sh-Boom Time Happen in Cars Land?

Sh-Boom Time happens roughly at sunset each night, so the time changes from season to season.

Sh-Boom Time is a small but magical moment. It is not a nighttime spectacular like World of Color. You will not find it listed on the entertainment schedule for the day. Instead, “Sh-Boom Time” is a charming interlude for people “in the know” or a sweet surprise for people felicitously in the right place at the right time.

Because Sh-Boom Time is not listed in the entertainment schedule for Disney California Adventure Park or Disneyland Resort, we recommend looking up what time the sun sets during your visit. Plan on being in Cars Land just before that time. Then grab a spot anywhere along the “street” to wait for Sh-Boom Time. Even better, mobile order a snack from Cozy Cone Motel, and enjoy a treat as Radiator Springs ignites.

Do the neon lights in Cars Land turn off after Sh-Boom Time?

No, not until after the park closes.

Sh-Boom Time is a special moment when the neon lights of Cars Land first come on for the night. But do not worry if you miss Sh-Boom Time, that does not mean you have to miss the Cars Land neon. The lights will stay on until guests have exited Disney California Adventure Park. So, stop by anytime after sunset to see the neon lights of Cars Land.
