Disneyland Resort FAQs with Mouse Brief
What is a tier 0 ticket at Disneyland Resort in California? Is a tier 0 ticket free? Is it named after Jack Skellington’s dog? Having a zero ticket tier for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim California can be a little confusing. Keep reading as we clear up questions around tier 0 tickets for Disneyland.
What is a Tier Zero Ticket to Disneyland?
Basically, a tier 0 ticket at Disneyland Resort is the lowest priced one day ticket.
Disneyland Resort sells admission tickets for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. You can purchase these admission tickets in multi-day bundles or for just one day of admission. One day tickets have date-based pricing: the cost of a one day ticket depends on which day you plan to use it. Disneyland Resort assigns a tier, numbered 0 through 6, to each admission day and to each one day ticket. You can use a one day ticket on any day with its matching tier number or lower. You can only use a tier 0 ticket on tier 0 days, because they are the lowest.
Disneyland ticket tiers are NOT like the difference between economy and first class tickets on an airline. It is more like the difference between booking a flight for the first week of November versus Thanksgiving week: travel days that are more popular are generally going to cost you more. Disneyland assigns higher tiers (and therefore, higher prices) to days which Disney estimates will be in-demand, like a Saturday in the summer. On the other end of the spectrum, Disney assigns 0 tickets to less popular days, like a Tuesday in early November. The lower price is meant to attract guests to those days.
So how does this work?
In the process of purchasing a one day ticket to Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park (or both with a Park Hopper), Disney will ask you which day you plan to use the ticket. If you are buying your ticket on the Disneyland app or Disneyland Resort website, you will be able to see a calendar of potential days. Each day will show you the cost of a one day ticket for that particular day. You will select a day and pay the assigned ticket price for that day. As part of this, you will make a park reservation at the same time. You really only need to know what tier Disney has assigned to your ticket if you change the date of your visit.
What if I want to change days or tiers?
If you decide to change the date of your visit, you will need to choose a new date that is at your ticket tier or lower. If you want to use your ticket on a higher tier day, you will need to upgrade it (i.e. pay more). We have a step-by-step guide to changing the date of a one day ticket plus more detailed information on ticket tiers in our guide here. We recommend that guide if you want to change your one-day park reservation or just better understand ticket tiers.
Tier 0 Tickets are Real and a Good Deal
So, tier 0 tickets to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park do exist, and they are named that way because they are the lowest tier (and lowest cost) ticket.
