This is an entry in our Disneyland 101 Glossary: Disneyland Resort definitions in under 101 words, from Mouse Brief.
This entry is for the SELECT EXPERIENCES PASS at Disneyland Resort. In the past, this pass has also gone by the name MULTIPLE EXPERIENCES PASS, and you may hear other guests call it MULTI EXPERIENCE PASS or MEP. For more information on this pass and how to use it, keep scrolling after the glossary entry.
A select experiences pass allows you to access one attraction through a priority entrance while bypassing the standby line. If you are given a select experience pass, it will show-up in your Disneyland app with a list of eligible attractions for that particular select experiences pass. You may choose one of these attractions and approach the Lightning Lane scanner or a cast member at the attraction’s entrance. Then, scan your pass and enter through the Lightning Lane (or alternative entrance). You do not need to make an advance reservation as you would with a Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Thank you for reading this entry of select experiences passes (aka multiple experiences passes or MEPs) at Disneyland Resort. For even more information on these valuable passes, keep reading…

Getting and Using a Select Experiences Pass or Multiple Experiences Pass
First, let’s expand just a bit on the quick definition above. A Select Experiences Pass (Multiple Experiences Pass) is something Disney offers to guests in certain situations, usually as compensation for some kind of inconvenience. This pass allows a guest to choose one out of a select list of attractions and then access that attraction through a special priority entrance. This is desirable because this special entrance allows users to bypass the longer and slower standby queue and board and attraction more quickly
This pass is particularly valuable because it can be used at anytime without a guest needing to make a reservation for a special return time (as is required with a Lightning Lane Multi Pass). This makes the Select Experiences Pass similar to a Lightning Lane Premier Pass. However, a Lightning Lane Premier Pass costs quite a bit of money, while a Select Experiences Pass cannot be bought. A Select Experiences Pass is awarded at Disney’s discretion. Accordingly, it is helpful to understand scenarios in which you would commonly receive this pass and worthwhile to plan for how to use it well. That is why we wrote the: Guide to Disneyland Select Experiences Pass (Multi Experience Pass)
Read that guide for a detailed breakdown of when you can expect to get a Select Experiences Pass and our best advice on how to make the most of that pass. There are a variety of passes at Disneyland that can save you time in line, and it is easy to get them a little mixed around. To add to the confusion, some of the passes have very similar names, so here is a quick list of those passes with links to posts that will help you learn more about them.
Other Line-Skipping Passes
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a paid service at Disneyland Resort that allows holders to access multiple attractions through the priority Lightning Lane entrance. Each of the included attractions may be accessed once per day with this pass, and the guest must reserve a time to do so in advance. For information on the difference between a Multiple Experiences Pass (aka Select Experiences Pass or MEP) and the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, see this article: Disney Multiple Experiences Pass vs. Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. For information on how to use the Lightning Lane Multi Pass specifically, see our Big Guide to Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland Resort
- Lightning Lane Single Pass is a one-time paid pass that allows the user to bypass the standby queue at a single select attraction. A guest purchases a Lightning Lane Single Pass for a particular attraction and a particular time. At that time, the user can enter the priority Lightning Lane entrance and have a much shorter wait to board the attraction. There is no overlap between the attractions eligible for Lightning Lane Single Pass and the attractions eligible for Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Our guide to all things Lightning Lane is here: Disneyland Lightning Lanes: How to Super-Charge Your Visit
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass combines the attractions included in the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and those eligible for the Lightning Lane Single Pass into one powerful (and pricey) pass. Users may bypass the standby queue at each of these attractions once per day by using the Lightning Lane priority entrance. There is no need to reserve a specific time to enter these attractions. You can find more information on this top-tier Lightning Lane pass here: What is Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Disneyland?
- Virtual Queue opportunities are free to any Disney guest with valid admission. Any guest can use the Disneyland app to request a spot at an attraction, show or activity to be experienced later. This is most frequently utilized for brand new attractions and limited-time activities, but it is not available for most attractions. You can learn all about virtual queues and how to use them here: Disneyland Virtual Queue Guide.
- Mobile Ordering allows guests to pre-order their food from a quick service restaurant. Anyone can use the Disneyland app to select and pay for food and beverage items from a quick service restaurant and then select a pick-up time. At that time, the user can then skip the standard queue for the restaurant and retrieve their items from a designated pick-up location. Mobile Ordering is available in both parks as well as at select other restaurants around Disneyland Resort (for example Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar and Grill at Disneyland Hotel).
