Today, we have five Disneyland Resort rules you need to know before your visit. Understanding these rules can help you save money and time on your visit. You might not think of rules as fun, but we think you will be surprised by what you CAN do at Disneyland Resort! Keep reading for our top five Disneyland rules to know…

Children under 3 are guests of Mickey (that means free) in Disneyland!

Putting off that Disneyland Resort vacation until the kids are older? Do not wait too long, because children under three are free at Disneyland Resort! Kids from infants through the age of two can enter Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park for free: you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. These littlest guests go by the sweet name “Guest of Mickey,” because their visit is “on the mouse.”

And, it is not just park tickets that babies and toddlers get for free! Children under three can accompany their group through Lightning Lanes and onto attractions without their own passes. As long as the ticketed members in your group have Lightning Lane passes, you do not need to purchase a Lighting Lane pass for kids under three. (Of course they still need to meet the height requirement to ride.)

Are you planning to have any buffet meals at Disneyland Resort? Children under three can eat off of an adult’s plate from the buffet. You will not be charged separately for their meal as you would for the others at your table.

Children under 7 must ride Disneyland attractions with someone over 13.

Guests of Mickey or not, you will not be able to send your littlest ones to Disneyland Resort without an adult. Disneyland Resort rules specify that children under fourteen must be accompanied through the parks’ gates by someone fourteen or older. Children under the age of seven must ride attractions with someone fourteen or older.

Consider Disneyland’s rules for supervision of children when deciding how your family might split up during your visit. Any kids six and under will need to be seated by an adult (or teen over thirteen) during rides.

For families with multiple kids under seven and only one or two adults, this might seem like a tricky equation. Fortunately, we have found that cast members are willing to problem solve and find a seating arrangement that is both safe and works for our family. We encourage you to not stress about this rule, but approach cast members with a willingness to listen to their expertise and share your own family needs. Cast members have seen it all!

You CAN bring your own food and drinks. It is not against Disneyland rules!

This is one of our favorite tips for saving money and eating well at Disneyland Resort. You CAN bring your own food and drinks into Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. It is not against the rules!

We have a whole article about it with tips on what to bring, where to get it and how to still enjoy some Disney dining. You can find that article here: Why You Should Bring Your Own Food to Disneyland. Whether we are visiting with kids or without, we always bring some food to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

We also always bring reusable water bottle to Disneyland Resort. You can find our best tips for bring water to Disneyland here: Can I Bring Water Into Disneyland?

Keep in mind that there are some things you cannot bring into Disneyland Resort including alcoholic beverages, glass containers (except for baby food jars) and loose ice. You can find the full list on the Disneyland website.

Ticket days must be used by the same person, but you do not need to use them all in a row.

You can buy admission tickets for the parks of Disneyland Resort in increments of one to five days. If you do buy a multi-day ticket, every day on the ticket must be used by the same person. A Disneyland cast member takes your photo on the first day of your visit, and this photo is then tied to your ticket. For detailed information on purchasing tickets, check-out out article: Essential Tips for Disneyland Tickets and Reservations.

You cannot share your Disneyland ticket with another person, but you CAN take days off in-between your park visits, and that is something we absolutely recommend! You can read all about it here: Maximize Value: Take a Rest Day at Disneyland.

Most standard tickets just need to be used within a two week period. Special ticket offers may have different rules with even longer use-periods. Check the policies when you buy!

Double strollers are allowed in Disneyland.

You may have heard that Disneyland Resort implemented stroller restrictions in 2019. The good news is that these maximum size restrictions are still pretty generous. Since they were put in place, we have brought two popular double jogging strollers (BOB Gear and City Mini) to the parks on multiple occasions.

Here are the restrictions: all strollers must be under 31” wide and 52” long, and no wagons or stroller-wagons are allowed. You can find the guidelines here.
