What to Wear for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland

Great news: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened in Disneyland Park on November 15, 2024! Tiana and her bayou buddies have been entertaining guests for almost a month now, and many people have joined their party. Only… we do not want to throw a wet blanket on the fun, but some guests are reporting getting really soaked. (The ride is in the former home of Splash Mountian after all!) You may very well come through the ride as dry as the humor on the Jungle Cruise, but just in case… here are some ideas for what to wear on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland Park.

Even if you decide to go with regular clothes, we do have a few tips for protecting your gear from water, so please keep reading.

Option 1 for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Wear Waterproof Gear

One option for what to wear on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is to wear your regular clothes and cover them with waterproof gear. We have ideas for waterproof gear in our article: What to Wear to Disneyland: Part 2, Cold or Wet Weather, but we are including an overview here.

Poncho

Get a large poncho and cover as much of yourself as you can. If you get a poncho large enough, this could protect you from a wet seat as well. Remember, even if you do not get wet, the seat in your Tiana’s Bayou Adventure log (the ride vehicle is a log) might already be wet from the previous go-round.

Here is a poncho we use when visiting Disneyland. It has the benefit of folding down to pocket size!

Raincoat

Alternatively, you could wear a raincoat on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This has the added benefit of shielding you from chilly wind during your day at Disneyland. We love Columbia raincoats and have more than a few at home.

You could grab this one

Or one designed for women like this one

Here is one for kids.

We like pairing these jackets with an insulated vest for cooler days. Here are two options we like: this one or this one. (No, Columbia does not sponsor us. We just really like their gear.)

Extra Waterproof Gear: Pants & Shoe (or Seat) Covers

If you are really serious about your waterproofing and want to protect yourself from those wet seats, you can bring some rain pants to pull on over your outfit.

We have these pants at home. They work like a waterproof “shell” over regular pants

Here is a version designed for men.

Some folks have also gone so far as to cover their shoes with plastic shopping bags. A plastic bag might also be nice for covering the seat if you are worried about sitting in a puddle.

Option 2: Wear Quick-Drying Clothing All Day

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of the reasons we recommend wearing quick drying clothing to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. The other reasons are sweat and Grizzly River Run (and sometimes even Pirates of the Caribbean). Clothing made out of performance fabric is nice for wicking sweat away; it is also helps you dry quickly when that moisture comes from the outside.

We have a whole list of quick drying base layers in our article What to Wear to Disneyland: Part I, Base Layers. Head over to that post for some ideas or look through your drawers for some quick drying athletic or outdoor gear. These clothes are particularly nice in the summer. They will not dry instantly, so you may want to have a back-up plan on cold days.

Importantly, we do not recommend wearing jeans if you plan on riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Cotton denim looks great, but it is also great at soaking up water, and wet denim is HEAVY. If you have non-cotton options for your bottoms, we recommend going with those. Again, you can check this article if you need ideas.

Option 3: Pack a Change of Clothes

If you just want to wear your regular clothing to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure or you just want to see how it will go… you can always bring a back-up set of clothing to Disneyland Park.

You can store this clothing in a rented locker on Main Street U.S.A. or you can carry it in a backpack, like one of our recommended ones (this one and this one). If you keep the clothing in a backpack or bag that you are carrying with you, remember to protect that bag from water in some way, or your change of clothes might get damp too (keep reading for tips on this).

Alternatively—or as a back-up plan—you can plan to head back to your hotel to change. This works best if you are at close hotel, like one on Harbor Boulevard or a Disneyland Resort Hotel. You can find our chart comparing locations for the three Disneyland Resort Hotels here.

What Shoes to Wear on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

You saw in option 1 above that some people plan for keeping their feet dry on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure by putting plastic bags over their shoes. If you are concerned about wet feet, you can tuck some shopping bags into your park bag and don them before the ride.

Alternatively, you could wear some water friendly shoes like our favorite Keen sandals that we wrote about in this article: What to Wear to Disneyland: Part 3, Shoes.

If you would rather wear flip-flops on the ride, we would suggest wearing those just for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as we do not think they are very practical for a whole day at Disneyland. Again, see that post on shoes. As in option 3 above, you can store those flip-flops in a locker or backpack until you need them.

Final Tips for What to Wear (or Bring) on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

So, we suggest you either (1) bring waterproof gear and wear it on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, (2) wear quick drying clothing all day in Disneyland Park or (3) plan to change your clothes.

Of course, it could be that you are among the guests who do not get very wet on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure or that you are visiting during August and getting wet sounds AMAZING.

If you are not concerned about getting wet, we would still recommend taking one precaution. Make sure any electronic devices are tucked safely away during your ride on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This could mean burying them deep in your backpack or giving them to a non-rider. One easy measure you can take is to bring a zip-top plastic bag and place your phone and other electronics into it before the ride.

You could also place your entire backpack or purse into a plastic shopping bag. This is also what we recommend doing if you are storing your change of clothes (or a leftover churro) in the bag you are carrying.

Wet or dry, we are sure you will have a blast on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
